You can adjust how far it rewinds after pausing, whether it should automatically begin playing again after a phone call is ended, and even minutely adjust the reading speed to compensate for uncomfortably slow or fast narrators. Smart AudioBook does exactly what it sets out to do, and does it simply, directly, and perfectly. Has all of the advanced options and features that you might need, including an equalizer, timers, a character editor for following a story, the ability to define chapters manually, and a whole host of other goodies. You simply put your audio files in subfolders of a folder, making sure the files are numbered sequentially, setting the app to that folder, and there are your books, ready to go. Audiobooks in all sorts of janky file formats all play flawlessly, and the UIs for the app, widget, notification, and Android Auto are all well designed and intuitive. Small footprint, doesn't drain battery, has a useful widget, always saves place in book, handles cover art, and can cast to other devices.

Kindle provides access to thousands of free books, as well as features for notes and highlighting, even a dictionary.
